What is Bruschetta?
Bruschetta (pronounced broo-SKET-tah) is a traditional Italian appetizer made with grilled or toasted bread rubbed with garlic and topped with fresh ingredients. While tomato and basil are the most popular toppings, bruschetta can include cheeses, vegetables, or even meats. It’s meant to be a hand-held, bite-sized snack that highlights the flavors of fresh, high-quality ingredients.
Ingredients
Tomato Topping:
- Red and yellow grape tomatoes, halved
- Garlic, minced
- Fresh basil, chopped
- Balsamic vinegar
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt & black pepper
Bread:
- Baguette, sliced diagonally
- Butter or olive oil for toasting
Optional:
- Parmesan cheese or balsamic glaze for serving
Variations
- Cheesy Bruschetta: Add mozzarella or Parmesan for a rich, melty topping.
- Garlic-Rubbed Toast: Rub a cut garlic clove on the toasted bread for an extra garlicky aroma.
- Avocado Twist: Mix diced avocado into the tomato topping for a creamy texture.
- Make it Ahead: Prepare the tomato mixture a few hours before serving and keep refrigerated; toast bread just before serving.
