For the Apple Filling:
- 6 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
For the Crumble Topping:
- ¾ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Spread the mixture evenly in the baking dish.
For the topping:
In a medium bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter and use your fingers or a fork to create a crumbly mixture with small clumps.
Sprinkle this over the apples.
Bake for 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling.
Let cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. Optional: top with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.
Tips & Variations
- Use a mix of sweet and tart apples (like Honeycrisp and Granny Smith) for the best flavor.
- Add ½ cup chopped nuts to the topping for extra crunch.
- For a make-ahead version, assemble the crisp and refrigerate for up to 1 day before baking.
- Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months; thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
